Freedom in Christ

John 8:31-32 ** Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him. “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Christ Jesus often spoke of the freedom mankind would give to followers of the rules set forth in the Bible. Eastern Europe celebrated freedom after the Soviet Union dismantled in 1991. However, the jubilant new freedom quickly resulted in drug abuse, organized crime, prostitution and porn. This is the same rapidly spreading freedom the wicked serpent enticed Eve in the beginning. Similar senses of freedom ignore “old covenant” practices of the law of our Creator. They actually believe the burden of the law has been lifted and they are no longer under bondage or obligation since Christ taught “love God and your fellowman”.

Many will say they love God bur ignore Him and seek earthly pleasure. Many say they love their fellowman but express their hate of our Creator by killing, thieving, judging and destroy if they can’t have it for themselves. Mankind is still under bondage and darkness by the rulers of this age (Satan and his spirits – Ephesians 6:12). This bondage of a dark and dreadful life will continue until the soon return of the Messiah who will truly give freedom to those that abide in the word of our Creator’s law. A warning of false prophets comes from the Apostle Peter in 2 Peter 2:19 (While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage).

True freedom comes now to those that abide in the word of God, for Christ came to free us from sin through His atoning sacrifice. Hebrews 2:14-15 tells us He shared in the same misery of man, “…..that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage (slavery to Satan, the adversary of God)

By the liberty we receive in Christ Jesus by the free gift of His shed blood to atone for our sins, we now have the hope of living forever with our Creator. We are no longer held captive by Satan and are called away from deception, guilt, depravity, superstition and a destructive lifestyle. This true freedom of knowledge learned in bible study will guide us in the word, “and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.     Christ tells us in John 17:17 that a person can’t be spiritually free unless he has the truth, which is the entire Bible and word of God. Sadly, the world has no time to study the word or even understand it. Their preference is to follow the wide road of Satan’s world into eternal death and destruction.

Psalms 119: 44-45 **. So shall I keep Your law continually, Forever and ever, and I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts.

The entire world desires freedom, but freedom has a price. Since the world considers just their own interest, laws are necessary to grant freedom. The world abides not in the word of God or keeping His laws continually and forever. The way of man will never be a guarantee of complete freedom. The result is chaos, war, destruction, starvation, sickness and eternal death. The Epistle of James calls the law of God “a law of liberty”. Verse 1:25 (But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.)

Many people in this world claim religious freedom in Christ but refuse to follow the law written by the finger of God Himself on Mount Sinai. Loving obedience to the law of God is not an effort to attain salvation by works, but a sincere response of the heart to want to serve and please the God of the universe who gave His spiritual laws for the well being of mankind. The Apostle Paul clearly and explicitly advises mankind in Romans 8:21 (because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God). True everlasting freedom by the documented resurrection of Christ will soon come when He returns.  Repent now and ask Almighty God to help you attain everlasting life as one of His children before it’s too late!
