Slow Promises

2 Peter 3:9 ** The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

The Apostle Peter reminds us that false teachers promote the belief that “everything goes on since the beginning”. This attitude keeps our minds away from the love our creator and promotes the teaching of evolution that history operates by blind chance. This attitude falsely teaches mankind to accept a universe where there is no room for God. When there is no room for Father God, Proverbs 15:11 explains, “Death and Destruction (Abaddon, bottomless pit.) Lie open before the Lord ---how much more the hearts of men!”

The contentment we enjoy when we surrender our lives to good work for the Lord brings our hearts to the image of great reward with our Redeemer Christ Jesus which will endure forever. The hoard of selfish riches in this world will soon disappear as Peter explains in verse 10, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. (Rev. 21:1 also)

Our Lord explains throughout His wonderful book of Life, the Bible, that mankind chooses to bring continuous suffering and sorrow on himself by sin. Since our Creator cannot tolerate sin which is disobedience to His law, the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Yet, because of His wonderful timetable everyone has a chance to repent and be washed in the everlasting blood of His human lamb, His son, the Messiah Christ Jesus. For a thousand years with the Lord is like one day in the life of man (verse 8).

We do well to remember the “bottom line” as the tolerances of God’s end time for disobedience rapidly draws to a close. He wants all to come to repentance and not perish as the earth is laid bare with fire and brimstone as He warned us with Sodom and Gomorrah. When we understand just how short our visit on this wicked world, it becomes all too evident that we must turn away from following the traditions of man and follow the precepts (all the laws) of our Creator.

1 Peter 2:11-12** Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, through they accurse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us (before He lays the earth bare with fire).  Verse 21, 22 emphasizes, “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.” (Isaiah 53:9).

There is hope with the truthful promises of our Creator to all who truly profess their love for God and brethren. That promise is a substitute for our everlasting death. The substitute is the payment by the Messiah Christ Jesus who came to bear the awful wrath of God for the unbelieving pagan world. The substitute dramatically phrased in II Corinthians 5:21, “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”  ** The suffering we endure in this short life has no comparison to the wonderful and beautiful glorious life our Creator has in store for His commandment keepers. As His keepers of the commandments we must not lose heart; but renewed in prayers daily because our momentary troubles will very soon become eternal achievements that far outweighs our earthly troubles. Satan knows what this world wants “desires away from God”. He entices people with sinful lustful desires to escape the promises of life eternally. He continues to corrupt this world with traditions of man! He continues to corrupt this world away from the righteousness of God! He continues to corrupt this world to turn their back on our creator! He continues to tell people to wallow in the mud and filth of corruption and sin as a washed sow returns to wallow in the mud!

Now is the time of God’s promise and favor to those that love Him by keeping His laws in our heart! But not only to say “we have His precepts” but to do them!  Now is the time for salvation before the lights are turned out in your life!   May the peace of our Lord be with all who read and follow the narrow road proclaimed by this message!
