Begging To Get In

Begging To Get In

Mark 7:24-26 (NIV) ** Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by and evil spirit came and fell at His feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. “First let the children eat all they want.” He told her, “For it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.”

The woman knew Christ, the great healer, was speaking harshly to her. She knew God’s chosen people (His children) were given first priority for healing and ministry. As a gentile, she knew the Hebrews of that day referred to gentiles as a female dog (a bitch). Yet, she continued to beg even though gentiles had to wait their turn. She believed her turn would come and refused to take no for an answer. Even the disciples of the Messiah had a problem with receiving the promised Kingdom of God as “little children” (Mark 10:13-15). What appeared to be a racist slur really demonstrated that regardless of race or gender, all people of the world can experience the fullness of our God’s Kingdom.

Our God didn’t send His son to earth on the first visit to reward the deserving but to serve the needy (who admit entitlement to nothing, yet trust in God’s Mercy). This gentile woman humbly begged for crumbs from the bread of God’s children, the Hebrews. Unlike the people of today that feel “you owe me”, and selfishly treat other people as unworthy of compassion, she humbly continued begging to get in to the Kingdom for healing for her daughter.

Christ Jesus stated in Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.”  ** This Goyim (non-Jew, pagan) woman complied with all three statements: (1) She begged to receive the unlikely miracle of casting out the demon from her daughter. (2) She begged to receive healing for her daughter. (3) She kept knocking and begging for the doors of heaven to open. Our Lord saw and heard her misery and graciously responded for this is the kind of begging that pleases God.

The first record of a pagan woman blessed by our Creator is in Genesis 16:13 **…..”You are the God who sees me.” For she (Hagar) said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”  **verse 11-12 ** The angel of the Lord also said to her: “You are now with child and will have a son; You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.” **The truth of the bible continues to ring true at the writing of this message for the descendants of Ishmael are the present day Arabs. The truth of the bible continues as the angel of the Lord told her in verse nine and ten, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count.”  ** In this present day who can count the Arab descendants of Abram’s (Abraham’s) first born son. Verse 16 tells us Abram was 86 years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael. Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born (Genesis 21:5). The genealogy of the Messiah Christ Jesus (Luke 3:21-37), second son of God is traced to Adam, the first son of God, verse 37.

Hagar, the servant of Sarai (Sarah) who was old and barren followed the tradition of ancient people. She followed traditions instead of waiting on the Lord to keep His promise to produce the Jewish Messiah Christ Jesus in the full bloodline of His children, the Hebrews. Traditions of man continue to this day as man has no patience to wait for the Lord to heal. They want a quick fix which always creates more problems down the road. Instead of waiting for the Lord to keep His promises, mankind continues to turn away from His loving kindness to his own way. Mankind’s own way is the wide worldly road of Satan to death.

When Hagar obeyed our Lord by going back to her mistress who had mistreated her, she was given a temporary home until her son reached fourteen.  Abraham (father of many nations) gave a great feast the day Isaac was weaned. Sarah complained to the master of the household that Ishmael mocked (disrespect, jeer). She used his remarks to get rid of the slave woman and her son since she did not wish the slave woman’s son to share in the inheritance with her son Isaac. (Genesis 21:10).

The matter greatly distressed Abraham, but God said to him, “Do not be distressed about the boy and your maidservant. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned (his descendants will be counted). I will make the son of the maidservant into a nation also, because he is your offspring.” ** So Abraham obeyed the voice of the Lord and after strapping a container of water on Hagar’s back and giving some food, he cast them out into the wilderness of Beersheba where they wandered aimlessly until the water was gone. She then left the boy in the shade of a bush and sat down herself about a hundred yards away and burst into tears for she did not want to watch the crying boy die.

In Luke 1:37 the angel Gabriel expressed not only consolation and reality that “Nothing is impossible with God. Our God once more came to the rescue of a begging servant woman who tearfully begged for a miracle for her son. She continued to knock for the doors of heaven to open. Our God heard her misery and humbleness and the boy crying. ** Genesis 21:17-19…..and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter Hagar? Do not be afraid Hagar, God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink. The boy grew up, lived in the desert as an archer and his mother got a wife for him in Egypt. Our God has a plan for each of us that beg with pleasing begging. He has the power to preserve life and in so doing can change the course of history. Please accept assessment of yourself by the Lord. Persist in His way with the way of Christ Jesus so that you may be counted worthy of life eternal.
