I Will Be With You

Joshua 1:9 ** “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage: do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

For forty years our God tested His people in the wilderness just as He tests His people today. Except for Joshua, Caleb and the teenagers born in the wilderness all were found unworthy to enter the Promised Land and perished. The God of this world (Satan – 2 Corinthians 4-3-4) then as now has blinded all people who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

Romans 13:1 ** Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

Our God commissioned Joshua as the leader and governing authority for His people. Here we learn that the supreme commander is God Himself. Men often ordain or chose a leader but only God puts leadership in place to instruct and guide each soul away from the many other gods Satan has enticed mankind to worship and follow. As chosen leader of God’s people, Joshua had to know God was the true leader and He alone would provide salvation to the souls that love Him. However, with unconditional belief and unconventional battle plans, the teenage army marched forward to a terrified Jericho. The people of Jericho were terrified for they had received reports of the mighty power demonstrated by the God of His people. ** Joshua 4:23-24 ** “For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up before us until we had crossed over. That all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

As leader commissioned by the Supreme Commander of even the universe, Joshua needed to do the conditions of God for success in taking possession of the Promised Land. First, he had to know and understand the law (Ten Commandments) given to Moses. Second was to practice the law of God in his personal and public life. And third, he had to effectively communicate the word of God with confident boldness to the children of Israel. Joshua effectively did as per the guidance and instruction by our Maker. However, in the world today, many leaders turn away from the wisdom of our Maker and listen to groups and/or companies with the most riches and influence. Most leaders listen and are guided by those companies who seek the greed of personal gain which continues to corrupt and destroy the world in which we live.

Many people in the county where I live are upside down on their homes. This means they owe more to the mortgage company than the home is worth. Avarice (greed) has now made most of the world upside down; this means we owe China and the oil cartel more than future generations can ever pay. Sadly, the world rapidly turns quickly away from the law and love of the Supreme Commander of the universe and travels along the road of Cain (jealously, greed and murder).

Deuteronomy 8:1-2 ** “Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers. And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep the commandments or not.

With discipline and testing for forty years, the Lord your God is pleading for His children to learn humility and reliance on the Lord. The Lord knew that once those few survivors entering into the Promised Land with all its natural benefits, the tendency would be strong to forget the Lord and attribute their wealth to their own abilities instead of the fulfillment of the promised covenant (contract). Sadly, the Israelites most miserably failed to keep his commandments, just as most of the world is failing miserably today. It is so easy to attribute our resources to skill, drive and education and forget to remember that it’s only by the grace of God that we were born into such a land. Our skills, intellect and abilities are gifts from the hand of God. As our world crumbles about us people have not time to read or study the entire Bible words of life (39 books of the prophets and 27 books of apostles of Emmanuel, God with us, which is the Messiah Christ Jesus, beloved son and heir of the Lord your God).

James 1:17-21 **. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures. So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

How often have you asked: why is my life so hard? Why did God let this happen to me? Because of unbelief, we fail to realize our God is a generous giver even to the undeserving. However, our God continues to test us to see if we are truly worthy to enter His coming Kingdom. God continues to search our hearts to develop character. When Christ soon returns, He will take the upside down of this world and make it right by turning it right side up!  Will you be there to help Him?
