Calling of Moses
Exodus 3:10**Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt. Little did Moses know that our God had already chosen him to confront Pharaoh with the command of God to LET My PEOPLE GO so that they may hold a feast to ME in the wilderness! (Exodus 5:1) Even before Moses was born, our Lord had selected him as liberator and prophet for the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5) "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I sanctified you (freed from sin) and I ordained you a prophet to the nations."
It is often beyond understanding how our Lord works to achieve his plan. Moses would never be considered for any meaningful purpose by today’s standard. He was a stutterer who ran away from Egypt in fear of his life after murdering an Egyptian taskmaster. Yet, our Sovereign and Living God often will take the least likely person to accomplish His purpose. Calling Moses as liberator of His people lets the world know who the real boss is. Even though we are considered inadequate, as was Moses, we are the means by which the Good News of God’s salvation plan begins to take place. This is an incredible responsibility and privilege. However, most of the world even today complains and grumbles and is disobedient to the laws of our Heavenly Father. They follow their disobedient reward to death just as all souls, except Joshua and Caleb, which crossed the Dead Sea but never reached the Promised Land (symbolic for HEAVEN).
Exodus 3:11-12**But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?" So He (God) said, "I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve (worship) God on this mountain (Horeb)."
Mount Horeb, the mountain of God foretells the coming of the Messiah Christ Jesus in Deuteronomy 18:15-16** "The Lord you God will raise up for you a Prophet like Me from your midst, from your brethren. HE you shall hear, according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ **Luke 7:13-16**When the Lord (Christ Jesus) saw her (widow of Nain burying her only son), he had compassion on her and said, "Do not weep." Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "YOUNG MAN, I SAY TO YOU, ARISE." So he who was dead sat up; and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, "A great Prophet has risen up among us"; and, "God has visited his people."
When we are called by God, it means being confronted by his holiness. When our Holy God calls us to participate in his kingdom work it is a blessed privilege. The fact that our Holy God chooses to work with even imperfect me makes me feel welcome but very reliant (2 Corinthians 12:9**And He (God) said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you. For My strength is made perfect in weakness."** When we answer the calling of our Holy God, we should not try to convince Him we are not worthy as did a frightened farmer named Gideon. (Judges 6:12-16) And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him (Gideon), and said, "The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!" Gideon said to Him, "O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites." Then the Lord turned to him and said, "Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?" So he said to Him, "O my Lord, how can I save Israel?" Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house." And the lord said to him, "Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man."**Surely the Lord took the weakest man in Israel and with great power allowed him to muster an army of more than 30,000. Yet, the Lord reduced his army to 300 men to drive out all the Canaanite Kings and show who is the real boss and God of the universe. Throughout the Bible (66 books dictated by God to His Prophets and Apostles), words of wisdom, guidance and instruction are entwined like a jigsaw puzzle. Without constant daily study and comparing scripture with scripture, the world remains blind and disobedient to what our Heavenly Father desires to live with Him forever in the new Heaven and earth and restored Garden of Eden.
Sometimes our Lord has to literally knock us to the ground and take away our sight as with the Apostle Paul (Acts 9:1-19). Saul (name changed to Paul) on the road to Damascus had a spectacular confrontation with Christ Jesus from Heaven that radically altered his life. He received both a conversion and a commission; a change and a charge. Through Ananias, the Lord told Saul he would take the Good News to Gentiles, kings, and people of Israel. Yet, he could do nothing without the power of God’s Holy Spirit given to him by his son, Christ Jesus who stands on the right side of the one and only God. For those who love our Lord by keeping His commandments, also have the hope standing and even sitting with the Messiah Christ Jesus at the Throne of God Almighty.
