A Matter of Health

Why did our God distinguish between clean and unclean meats in the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation?

Genesis 7:2** (Instruction of God to Noah).Of every clean beast thou shall take thee by sevens, the male and the female: and of the beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Leviticus chapter eleven describes clean meats such as those that chew cud (eat plants only) and have divided hoofs. Exceptions are equines and swine. Only fish with scales may be eaten; sea mammals such as dolphin, otter, porpoise and whale are considered unclean. Birds of prey are also considered unclean.

No New Testament passages describe Jews or Christians eating meats that had been considered unclean. Such a view glares absent in the Bible. The apostle Paul repeatedly upholds adherence to the Law of God. (Romans 7:12 & 22; Acts 24:14 & 25:8). So did John in 1 John 3:4. So did James, the half brother of Christ Jesus (James 4:11 & 2:8-12). Violating Godís laws regarding clean and unclean meat would have been unthinkable for them.

In Colossians 2:16, when Paul wrote "let no man judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths". Most think he was saying its okay to eat unclean meat. Note that Paul never mentioned breaking Godís instructions as Adam & Eve did. However, regarding eating unclean meat; a more clear translation would be. "Do not let people criticize you on questions of eating and drinking nourishment".

Revelation 18:2**Ö.Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. If the Messiah, Christ Jesus did away with unclean meats; why would He tell John to write these words to describe the end time of his return? The word of God is consistent and unchanging. (Malachi 3:6; James 1:17; Matthew 5:17-19 & Hebrews 13:18.

It should be noted that swine eat garbage, feces and decaying flesh which become part of its own flesh. Three of the six most common food borne parasites in humans are associated with eating pork. These include toxoplasmosis, taeniasis or cysticercosis (pork tapeworm) and trichinellosis. The meat of shellfish is of great danger. Many illnesses such as paralysis and cholera have been attributed to eating this Bible no-no. Shellfish can be placed in water contaminated with cholera, sewage, chemicals, bacteria, toxin, parasites and viruses which they filter to become concentrated into their own flesh. For this reason, the California Legislature is proposing a law requiring the food industry to label shellfish with a warning that this food may be dangerous to your health.

In Mark 5:1-13, Christ Jesus cast many evil spirits from a demon possessed man. The multitude of demons requested Jesus cast them into a herd of swine numbering 2,000. The swine then ran violently down a steep hill into the sea and drowned. Beyond question, Jesus never considered swine good for food, even for the Gentiles living in the area. Remember that Christ Jesus, as the compassionate savior of mankind, who fed thousands of hungry followers with a few fish and loaves of bread; then ordered his disciples to pick up the scraps so as not to waste food. The animals Christ Jesus considered unfit for human consumption 2,000 years ago, remain unfit today and even until He returns to judge the wicked of this world for His Father God.
