Nahum 1:7 ** The Lord is good, a stronghold (refuge) in times of trouble; and He knows those who trust in HIM.

The book of Nahum was written about 600 years before the birth of the Messiah, the Lord’s first earth born child of the family of God. Nahum prophesied the destruction of Nineveh and the pagan Syrian Empire shortly before the destruction of Judah. The people believed God and repented. This lasted about 75 years at the preaching of Jonah 3:5. However, Nineveh quickly turned back to the worshipping the present god of this world (the devil), just as this age quickly turned back within 75 years after Christ returned to sit at HIS  father’s side in heaven as HIS saving strength of HIS right hand (Psalm 20:6).

In the beginning of our Lord’s plan for salvation, HE laid out ground rules for man to follow. These rules are the Ten Commandments such as to not commit murder, adultery, steal and lie. These are some of the necessary rules needed even before one is baptized and given the holy spirit of God to help you along the way. The spirit is necessary to guide and teach you the way of God’s Kingdom, not the wild Kingdom of Satan’s current world. To truly accomplish and succeed in God’s plan, each servant must reach a higher level of obedience than keeping just the Ten Commandments, He must do more, and otherwise we are like the unprofitable servants in Titus 3:8 and 9 as well as Matthew 25 (Ten virgins, Talents).  Luke tells us in 17:7-10, that mankind that does the bare minimum by keeping all the commandments may still be unprofitable servants and not worthy for entrance into the Kingdom. We must continue to strive to reach a much higher spiritual level (2 Corinthians 3:5-6). This verse specifically advises being disobedient to the law kills first by the cruelty of man but later by eternal death of our soul. The only escape from the latter is repentance, obedience and keeping all the commandments with a regular helping hand from the spirit to overcome.

The level of love we must have must exceed what any person is capable of doing without help from above. It is the level of love called agape (Ag-ah’-pay). This level of love is in opposition to the selfish and greedy nature of mankind. Roman’s 7:12-14 tells us the Law and Commandments are holy just and good. Keeping the laws of God is the beginning road to the Kingdom.  Rivers of water run down from the eyes of our Psalmist (as well as the eyes of our Lord) in Psalm 119:136 because men do not keep the Law. Verse 129 and verse 160 say, “Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them….The entirety of YOUR word is truth, and every one of YOUR righteous judgments endure forever.”

Isaiah 59:2 ** But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden HIS face from you, so that HE will not hear. ** The preaching of our Lord’s first born earthly son, Jesus, our Holy Redeemer is the foundation for eternal life which mankind then and now do not listen, obey; but just walk away as the rich young man in Matthew 19:16-22. In verse 17 HE says, “...If you want to enter into life (eternal), keep the commandments.” ** Luke 6:46 say, “But why do you call ME, Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say?”       ** In Philippians 2: 9-15, our God has highly exalted HIS son, Jesus Christ, which is above every name. His Holy blood as the Lamb of God covers the sins of worthy people that are empowered to do the will of God, therefore, pleasing the Almighty. By doing this, these worthy servants become blameless, harmless children of God without fault in the midst of this crooked generation. However, we must continue in obedience to shine as lights in this perverse, corrupt generation that has turned away from what is right or good.

This generation now has many shanty towns (favelas/slums) in Brazil. One particular section of Rio has a population of about 120,000 similar to Nineveh. This slum is called “The City of God”. The locals refer to it as “Marvelous city.  ABC News International refers it as the city of God – the devil. This is for good reason since it continues to be controlled by the devil’s drug traffickers, who war with police, killing civilians in the crossfire. Even little children hide when they see police for they fear them more than the evil drug traffickers.  The only escape for all of mankind is to be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Peter 1:4).

However, it is necessary to escape by doing what our God says in Genesis 26:5, saying, “Because Abraham obeyed MY voice and kept MY charge, MY Commandments, MY states, and MY laws.” ** The first 4 of the Ten Commandments, command mankind to Love the Lord your God which is a blessing and not a burden. The last 6 to love your neighbor as yourself is a blessing and not a burden. The Greek word of the Bible baruno (bar-oo’-no) translates as a heavy burden, violent, cruel and overcharged drunkenness which our Lord will soon take away when HE returns to imprison the god of this world, the devil. Christ said in Matthew 5:12, saying, “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven……” Cast away the false love taught by the world and become strong with the blessed truths of our Lord until we meet again!
