The Good Shepherd

John 10:11**. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

These are the words of the Messiah, Y’shua Christ Jesus recorded by the Apostle John. The Messiah came from Heaven to earth as a gentle lamb of our Lord God to lay down His life as the final sacrifice for the children (sheep) of the Lord. The sheep and children of the Lord are all people in this world that keep the Commands of our Lord. In Deuteronomy 6:6-7, our Lord God gave these words to Moses, saying, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you lie down, and when you rise up”.  ** The words which our Lord God commanded that day are the Ten Commandments of His great love (Deuteronomy 5:7-21).

The good shepherd that gave His life for His sheep again verified the Ten Commandments of His great love in the New Testament.  Matthew scandalously included four women with three being outside of Israel in his genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. In Matthew 19:17, he recorded the words of the Good Shepherd, saying, “…If you want to enter into life (eternal), keep the commandments”.  ** The genealogy of the Good Shepherd (Messiah, Y’shua Christ Jesus) was twenty eight generations from David who was fourteen generations from Abraham (Matthew 1:17). The gentle boy shepherd David who became King of Israel foresaw the coming of the Messiah and wrote about Him in the 23rd Psalms.  In verse one David says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”.  **”The Lord is one”!   (Deuteronomy 6:4).  However, the world cannot understand that our Lord desires to build a holy family to be sons and brothers of the Messiah Christ Jesus, the first born son of God (Colossians 1:18). Just as the children of Israel were in training in the wilderness for forty years so is mankind to this day, even as the world draws to a close. The children of Israel in the desert all died, including Moses, because of disobedience. Still, our Lord continues to search for obedient children, but few can be found.

There is no escape from every jot and tittle of the Law of Love (Matthew 5:18). The sheep of the Lord are constantly under His protection. We cannot stray or be lost if we truly love the Lord by keeping His Law of Love.  Man cannot understand that the Lord gave His only son born of woman to become a blood sacrifice to save a few others to inherit the Kingdom of God. The spirit (of God) Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. And if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together (Romans 8:16-17). ** We suffer because we keep the commands of our Lord but the world hates us because they worship the God of this world who is Satan, the lying and deceitful snake of Eden. The world hates us because our Lord God directs His sheep along the straight and narrow path as a sheep follows his trusted shepherd (Matthew 7:13-14).

When we are disobedient to the commands of our Lord, we are not in his fold of sheep and follow the wide path of the world which leads to destruction. However, the Lord shepherds us to a perfect path of discipline which teaches us to obey the Law. Attend a congregation of Church of God today to help you stay on the right path!  When we are in our Lord’s sheepfold, we shall not want or hunger for our needs. The Lord sent manna (bread) from heaven to feed the children of Israel in the wilderness for forty years. This is symbolic of God sending living bread of life from heaven by siring His own firstborn son to earth to lay down His life for His sheep. In John 6:33, Jesus said, “For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world”. ** Verse 35 – And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to ME shall never hunger and he who believes in ME shall never thirst”.  ** Verse 51 – “I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread (Holy Lamb of God) he will live forever; and the bread I shall give is MY flesh (sacrificial Passover Lamb of God), which I shall give for the life of the world”.

The Messiah, Y’shua Christ Jesus identified His body as the Passover bread, the manna from heaven. He also identified “living water” which will flow from the throne of God in Jerusalem. The “living river of water” will nourish the tree of life on each side of the river in the world to come (Revelation 22:1-2). Christ used a parable to illustrate that our Creator God rejoices when we turn to him and obey his commands. The well known parable taught to little children is the story of the spendthrift brother who became lost and hungry after leaving home with his share of his father’s estate. After squandering his newfound wealth in wild living and coming to his senses and repented. In Luke 15:17, he said, “How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with Hunger!”    He returned to his father (representing God), who lavished him with gifts and a banquet. In verse 24, he said, “For this my son was dead and is alive again, he was lost and is found”.

This young and foolish son was a lost sheep who followed the wrong sheep path but was rescued by the Good Shepherd. However, when you walk along the straight and narrow path of the Son of God you will experience a deep inner peace.   The Apostle Paul said these words in First Corinthians 11:1, saying, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ”. ** The lost son enjoyed the pleasure of sin for a short time. When we walk with Christ and keep the commands of our Creator God, we are out of step with this evil world. However, when we walk with Christ we will walk with pleasure forever and ever!   Turn and follow the right sheep path today! Tomorrow may be too late!
