Second Chance

Jonah 2:4-5 ** ….”I have been cast out of Your sight”….The waters surrounded me, even to my soul, the deep closed around me.

Our God called Jonah to travel to Nineveh (Iraq, near present day Bagdad) to declare his merciful nature and invite the pagan people to turn from their self-destructive ways and find the gift of life. Jonah selfishly refused to preach to non-Jews whom he and all Israel hated as their worst enemy. Jonah rebelled against the calling of God and tried to run away by ship to Tarshish which is the exact opposite direction.  Jonah quickly discovered you cannot run away or hide from our Creator God. However, people now don’t think of physically running from God, they just avoid His calling by blocking godly thoughts and His Holy Word (the Bible) out of their mind.

Our Creator God placed Jonah in solitary confinement for three days and three nights as was the Messiah, Y’shua Christ Jesus, 800 years later. Christ was buried in a tomb while Jonah was buried in the belly of a great fish which our God resurrected both. The great fish obeyed God to carry Jonah back to Israel after his prayer of humble repentance and vomit him onto dry land. The Angel of the Lord obeyed God to roll away the great stone sealing the tomb of the Messiah (Matthew 28:2) to come alive forever to set an example to people like Jonah, you and me. The example is that when you repent and are washed in the blood of the Holy Lamb, all people of this wicked world will have a second chance to become sons and daughters to live forever in the Kingdom of God.

The Israelites thought they were the only holy children of God and superior to the Ninevites which possessed great culture, knowledge and wickedness like the people of the today generation. However, our Creator God is the God of all people and setting an example by showing compassion and mercy to the enemies of His own people, God exemplifies that He will grant life to those that repent and remain obedient. In that age as today, our Creator God is a loving God of giving a second chance to those that love Him by keeping the entire Holy Royal Law (James 2:8, Romans 13:8-9, Exodus 20:1-17). Sadly, mankind has confused the ordinances of Moses (sprinkling of animal blood) which is no longer required since the blood of His Son, the Lamb, has truly eliminated ordinances of Moses which were placed on the (out) side of the Ark of the Covenant until the first coming of the Messiah. (Ephesians 2:15, Colossians 2; 14, Deuteronomy 31:24-26, KJV).

In Matthew 5:44-45, the Messiah, Y’shua Christ Jesus spoke these words, “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven, for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust”.  ** Just as Jonah was called to preach God’s message, we also are His ambassadors as Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:20-21, “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”.  ** When we repent and turn to our God, remaining righteous, we live and have the opportunity to become son’s of God. However, our God speaks clearly in Ezekiel 33:18-19, saying, “When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die because of it. But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is lawful and right, he shall live because of it”. ** Turning your back on the laws of God and reverting to wicked ways of disobedience is not acceptable and no more pure blood of God’s Son Y’shua, Christ Jesus is available to purify your soul. Isn’t it time you now turn and remain obedient to our Creator God?  Please accept the cleansing and atoning blood of our God’s only son, fathered by His Holy Spirit so you will live.

When Jonah was dying in the belly of the great fish, he repented and our God restored his life to do His will to reach out to the wicked Ninevites. They listened, believed the word of God and were given life. Centuries latter, Y’shua, Christ Jesus reached out to hopeless and unclean people such as lepers, paralytics, tax collectors and zealots and gave them new life. Most people in this world are considered hopeless, even untouchable, but everything our God has created matters to Him and He wants you to be part of His family forever! The Psalmist in 119:97-98, says, “Oh, how I love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through YOUR commandments make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me”.  ** If you repent and turn, our God will give you a second chance also; just as He gave Jonah and the Ninevites.
