Peter’s Way

Matthew 16:23 ** .But He (Christ Jesus) turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me Satan! You are an offense to ME, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

The gospel of a Jew named Matthew wrote to Jews about the life of a Jew named Jesus Christ. Matthew documented and presented Jesus (Heb. Savior) as King of the Jews, the long awaited Messiah. His documentation used the Tanakh (Old Testament) with quotations, genealogy, baptism, many miracles and messages which come to the final conclusion that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the anointed one of our one and only God.  The death which is a defeat for all mankind was a victory over death. The resurrection of the King of the Jews shows there is hope for mankind. Just as our Savior was resurrected to sit on the throne of our creator, those that love Him by keeping His commandments will also sit with Him on the throne of God in the soon coming everlasting Kingdom (Revelation 3:21).

When Christ Jesus referred His disciples’ spokesman Peter as Satan in verse 23, it is because even then, Satan the adversary of our Lord continued to try using the closest allied disciple to prevent Jesus from becoming the pure sacrificial Lamb of God to shed his blood for the sins of mankind.  The shedding of the only pure blood of God Himself was the planned destiny and purpose to save mankind from the eternal death of everyone which began with disobedience in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:16-17).

In Matthew 16:13-17, we read that our God gave the disciples the gift of knowledge of the identity of His Son, Christ Jesus. Knowledge for mankind was the golden carrot that Satan dangled and lied to Eve in the Garden. This was the beginning of downfalls continuing to this day. For with knowledge we know that Adam means human and Eve means ‘mother of all living’. Her third son Seth means ‘compensation’ to replace her son Abel, killed by his wicked brother Cain. God gave a new name and purpose to Abram to Abraham and Jacob to Israel. In verse 16, Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

The second gift of Christ Jesus is the keys to the kingdom of heaven as stated in verse 19, which is the church that Jesus built. That is the special church of God chosen by Him to receive salvation (eternal life) as the children of God. Their future hope of entering into His kingdom is by calling/inviting people from all walks of life that repent and turn to walk with the Word by keeping His commandments. Our Lord invited first the Jews when Peter whom Jesus called the ‘rock’ opened the door by preaching the gospel to Jews at Pentecost (Acts 2:22-41). At Pentecost, Peter preached, ‘Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin and pleaded with them to save themselves from this corrupt generation’. About 3,000 accepted the message and were baptized that day. Then Peter preached the gospel to the Goyim (gentiles) in Acts 10:34-46.

In chapter 10 of Acts, Peter once more humbled himself, admitting his life changing discovery that our God shows no favoritism to mankind. Just as God unfolded a large blanket 3 times showing serpents and other unclean animals to demonstrate the 3 gentiles knocking at his door were not unclean but wished to open their hearts to receive the Word and salvation. Peter’s message revealed the resurrection after 3 days of the Messiah, Y’shua Christ Jesus and He was the one whom God appointed to judge the living and the dead. He is the one all the prophets testified about; saying everyone who believes in Him will have their sins forgiven in His name.

Isaiah 53:10-11 ** .Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him (Messiah, Yeshua Christ Jesus). He (the Lord) has put Him to grief. When YOU (God) make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days (meaning forever), and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge MY righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities (sin, wickedness).

The Prophet Isaiah started his prophesy of the Messiah dividing his stanzas into 3 verses each beginning with 52:13 with high exaltation, His rejection  beginning with 53:1, His carrying our sins and sorrows beginning with 53:4,  His suffering and death beginning with 53:7 and His atonement for mankind’s sins beginning with 53:9.

Our God has given mankind the keys to heaven by unlocking the gates in the knowledge of the Messiah Christ Jesus who interprets the law, the will and heart of God. We use the keys (the Word) to unlock the gate of heaven. The cost of salvation is simply to follow Jesus our savior; we bind people to the wickedness of this world when we do not share the knowledge of our blessed Messiah. Sadly, the world no longer listens or follows the Word into the family of God.

Throughout the Word (entire Bible), our God generally selected the poor and needy to carry out His plan of salvation. Just as our Lord took Gideon and David from nobodies to heroes, He used Peter who was a poor hungry fisherman who could not even catch a fish for food. Yet, the Lord selected Him, even though he constantly inserted his feet and sandals into his mouth. Acts 4:13 tells us Peter as well as John were unschooled and ordinary (could not read or write.). Peter as an Apostle of Christ not only became a hero but the revelation of the Messiah (Revelation 21:14) advises the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb of God will appear on the 12 foundations of the New Jerusalem which will be 1,400 miles in the shape of a cube. Will you be there?

If mankind does not follow the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Messiah, Y’shua Christ Jesus) we lose it all. Martin Luther said, “I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, I still possess.”  ** In John 10:9, Jesus says, “I am the door (Good Shepherd). If anyone enters by ME, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” ** Repent, believe, abide and live forever!
